Lampedusa is the outpost for the Europe. Closer to Africa than to mainland Europe, but to get here is that all migrants attempting what is called “The Journey of Hope.” This is the name commonly given to the crossing of that piece of the Mediterranean sea that separates Africa from Lampedusa.

Migrants with old vessels called “ships of shame”, sold by smugglers on the coast of Libya or Tunisia, they try with the “journey of hope” to change their life. The migrants come from countries of the African coast but also from the sub-Saharan region and the Horn of Africa among other places. Very often must take months to travel through the African territory even in the desert before groped to embark on the coasts. Migrants are often very young, there are many children who are subjected to violence in their path, plundered by robbers of the desert or imprisoned by militaries or police in North Africa States. They leave in large numbers on the boats in a boat 200. Many find the end of their journey dying in the waves, those who manage to land end up in the Reception Center waiting to know what will be their fate. About 111 minors forgotten for days without hot water and sometimes without a bed to sleep on. The center keeps kids locked up with adults are about 700 people in a space that could contain up to 300. A recent survey has revealed that migrants are subjected to barbaric, that is: even in winter are put in a row naked and sprayed with pumps disinfect infected by scabies, pathology, inter alia, that no one seems to have among migrants. [Official Website]
