Crissial: Beyond the Skin, Self-Portraits That Connect with the Essence

Each image I create is a window into the uniqueness of the body as a vehicle for experiencing life, narrating fragments of a story that has no end. Beyond the visual, I want those who contemplate my work to allow themselves to feel, to reconnect with their emotions, and to reflect on the essence of who we are.

My constantly evolving photographic project is an invitation to explore the connection with oneself through self-portraiture.

Each image I create is a window into the uniqueness of the body as a vehicle for experiencing life, narrating fragments of a story that has no end. Beyond the visual, I want those who contemplate my work to allow themselves to feel, to reconnect with their emotions, and to reflect on the essence of who we are.

The nude as a language of authenticity

In my work, the artistic nude is much more than a visual element; it is a metaphor for shedding social masks and getting to the essential. Influenced by my sociological training, I have learned to see the body as a reflection of our relationship to the world, a space where our histories, emotions, and vulnerabilities converge.

Undressing in art is an act of self-exploration and self-discovery. It is a moment to celebrate authenticity, to let go of the superficial, and connect with what makes us human and conscious. In this process, I also honor the feminine energy that exists in all of us: that creative, receptive, intuitive, loving, and reflective force that I feel is so necessary in the contemporary world.

Self-portrait as meditation

Self-portraiture is, for me, a meditative practice. Through the camera, I find a space to explore my emotions, my thoughts, and the layers of my own identity. It is not just about capturing an image but about connecting with myself in a profound way, using the creative process as a vehicle for introspection and transformation.

Furthermore, in my work, I seek a symbolic and visual connection with nature. The natural elements I incorporate, whether real or recreated, represent the essential link between human beings and their environment. The atmospheres I create combine internal and external landscapes, inviting us to reflect on our interdependence with the world around us and the timelessness of our existence.

Aesthetics between the dreamlike and the tangible

My visual proposal combines contemporary photographic resources with finishes that evoke analogue techniques. I am interested in creating atmospheres that have a dreamlike quality, where the viewer can immerse themselves in the present moment. Intricate details, carefully thought-out body language, and intuitive composition allow me to emphasize the emotions in each image.
By integrating textured effects and painterly finishes, I seek to convey a sense of timelessness that connects the handmade with the digital. This approach not only defines my aesthetic but also allows me to explore photography as a medium that fuses the human with the technical, the ephemeral with the eternal.

My work not only aspires to be visually appealing; it is also an invitation to question and reflect on our identity and our emotions. For me, art is a space where one can experience, feel, and transform. In creating these images, I hope that those who view them will not only observe but allow themselves to connect with themselves and rediscover the beauty at its core. In a world where emotional disconnection and overstimulation are increasingly common, my goal is to offer a refuge, a moment of pause where we can reconnect with what truly matters. Through this photographic project, I seek to celebrate life, authenticity, and connection.

Self-portraiture, the artistic nude, and my relationship with nature are the axes that shape my work. Each image is an invitation to look inward, to rediscover our essence, and to explore the depths of our emotions. For me, art is a bridge between what we are and what we can become, and this project is my way of sharing that search with the world.
