At the beginning of May, the city is flooded by locals and outsiders, with the falcons at the head always ready to be seen.
To the sound of endless bands and charangas playing Moorish marches, people are carried away by joy. Moments of hugs, wine, horses and flowers, and the knowledge that life will return to its course. The streets take me to where the hubbub is just an echo of the celebration: a young boy leans on a chipped wall, a flag hangs on a balcony and someone raises a glass to the sun. Ingredients from a place as common as the patron saint festivities in Spain, but in Fuchina they’re a backdrop to focus on the silence that’s also found in them.
About David Salcedo
David Salcedo was born in Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia, Spain). His work has been exhibited individually in many centers and festivals across his country, highlighting his three exhibitions in the now-defunct Kowasa Gallery. He has also participated in national and international collective exhibitions such as Un cierto panorama, and International Miami Street Photography Festival.
He has won several awards and scholarships, how to be a finalist Street photography awards of Lens Culture 2018, El Premio Proyecta 2016 of Centro Fotográfico Andaluz, and Premio Nuevo Talento Fnac in 2015. He was also finalist of FotoPres La Caixa scholarship in 2013. He was selected for the portfolios viewings of Encontros da Imagem 2013, and Descubrimientos PHotoESPAÑA 2014. He has also been selected to PANORAMA1 del Centro de Documentación y Estudios Avanzados sobre Arte Contemporáneo de Murcia (CENDEAC), and for the call Cuarto Lúcido of the Centro José Guerrero from Granada.
He self-published 3 and Argos, two photographic fanzines, and S’amorra amorra with Cirkadian publishing editorial. He participated in the publications Pasaporte of Territorios Libres, Presentes Futuros of PA-TA-TA Festival, and in the catalogs Un cierto panorama, and Outono Fotográfico Galego 2013.
