“I am a Dreamer” is a new project started in 2017, it is a conceptual series of surreal portraits interpreted in an ironic key and inspired by adolescence.
I was inspired by my son and the metaphor of life understood as growth and change, looking at the world through the eyes of a child who contemplates nature and contemplates the future.
Adolescence is a crucial time when the identities are being challenged where young people spend time with their reflection and accept their appearance. The informal and wild environment near the sea and the open air has created a relaxing and suggestive atmosphere that has encouraged us to hear and interpret the characters in a funny and surreal way . The kids contemplate the world with the eyes of fantasy imagining characters or comics and identifying in them as they do with life, so a balloon turns into a person and is ready to fly, as society impose to grow with the brain in box, or forces us to wear masks, express fears and dreams of growing and discovering the world through personal and creative experience with sense of humor and playfulness and a touch of surreal poetry. We often grow up and educate our children according to the preconceptions that are imposed on us by mass media and society, while the most important thing is to teach them to be free. A Magritte said: “Freedom is the possibility of being and not the obligation to be”.
