The idea of my photo series (No) Stories to be told as well as the implementation of it, arose during the restriction period of the pandemic.
In this weird and new condition we lived, when the everyday life suddenly comes to an extended pause, time expands and our thoughts and glance turn mainly to the past, rather than the present or the future.
Old, black and white family photos, forgotten in albums and drawers for years, surface again like asserting a second chance. People, memories and stories, ready to be told- to those who wish to listen- or simply remain in the oblivion well.
The protagonists come to light, invoking memories, cultures and figures of another era. They live again, this time with us, here and now, in a “new reality”. Unconsciously, they demand to exist as characters in the picture and not simply as a picture in the picture. Their silence attempts to break the silence. The materialization of this series has begun in October, 2020 and is still in progress.
About Afroditi Diamantopoulou
I was born and brought up in Athens, Greece and more specifically in a suburb named Chalandri. After finishing school I worked for a multinational corporation but the biggest part of my carrier was on banking area. Although I have been interested in photography almost all of my life, only the last 10 years I managed to get more involved. When I finally left banking in 2016, I got the time to get into photography devotedly and systematically.
During those years I have been attending various seminars and did a lot of research on my own. I am also member in different groups about photography and I spend a lot of time seeing and exploring new projects. I am highly interested on how photographers of different mentality approach their themes as well as on the techniques they use for their implementation.
The last 4 years I’ve been attending photography lessons in the workshop of the municipality of Chalandri, fact that has helped me not only to become more familiar with my camera, but also to get to know the work of many classical and modern photographers. At the same time, I had the chance to work and experiment on different projects and get edifying feedback. I am an amateur photographer but passionate and persisted about imaging. I really enjoy the whole procedure, from capturing the idea until editing.
