After that I came back to my birth place, Provence and decided to keep doing photography, but professionally. Now I am registered as independent artist in France.
Although I now live in Provence, I don’t want to fall into the shiny colorful postcard cliché. Fortunately I live nearby a great place called “Plage de Piémanson” and when I want to join the great outdoors, it is naturally to the Camargue to point my eyes, and particularly to this strange beach.
Season after season, I walked the beach and as I’m attracted by photo report a short while ago, I started to document the arrival and departure of trailer groups on this local beach. I wanted to tell a different story altogether and I like to cover it on a long period of time, like a long travel, in order to build my own look on things and make beautiful encounters …
Season after season I walked the beach to devote a series of photographs. Because this place is unique : it is allowed to put his caravan there for five months of the year, from May to October. Past the frenzy of the summer, only the fiercest persist until the last minute, their isolated caravans in the middle of the huge beach, delivered to the elements. The early fall is the time I like to take pictures on the beach. The atmosphere is completely different because the blue sky sometimes gives way to a sky with clouds threatening. In addition, only the bravest remain with their caravan on the beach. There is very little photographer and can easily become acquainted with the people who eventually get to know you.
I made real friends. Every year I am happy to find Marco passing five months of the year on the beach before returning to eastern France for the rest of the year. There are good pictures to do. I work on this series with a Canon digital camera, a 35mm and a 70-200mm zoom. That’s enough. And sometimes I use long exposures and filters to enhance the mood. In this case, I also often work in black and white. Caravans , residents , beach : three actors at the heart of this photographic record of a place full of poetry and carrying a breath of freedom. Here are some pictures taken from my series. I called ‘caravan Avenue’ I hope you enjoy the pictures and that you will be traveling to this unusual beach. [Official Website]
