This whole series is inspired by the “Death” character from Neil Gaiman’s Graphic Novel Character.
To reference the character, I used the “Ankh” and the Eye of Horus as consistent symbols used throughout the different characters I portray. This is an ongoing creative project that enables me to collaborate with lots of talented creative people.
These are different interpretations and re-interpretations of the “Death” character from my dreams and daydreams. For instance, the death with an ice –cream was from a recurring dream years ago about a little girl holding a tower of ice cream scoops under the rain. This is also personal in a way that it relates to my view about death- that it is not scary, that it is not necessarily ominous, that it shouldn’t have to be gloomy at all. Death can be fashionable. Death can be sexy.
Death is an oxymoron.A person’s interpretation of death is how they view it and relate to it based form their experiences.
On my subjects, I ask the following questions:
“If you’re gonna be death for a day, how do you wanna look like and what will you do?”
“How do you wanna die?”
I want this series to start a discussion (i.e. the transitioning person with the ankh painted on her body where you can see her boobs and her penis). I want this series to transcend layers of meanings more like death itself- it creates life. [Official Website]
