This project is an overview of my work. It contains different series, but also portraits.
With the series I make, a developing process of ideas pushes me in the right direction. I love to do a lot of hamstering of materials after making a moodboard. And then I have to kill my darlings, to set focus again. Always more ideas then time. I start with a concept, but sometimes it can take a different direction, because when I pick up the camera I love to follow my intuition within the lines of the concept. My fuel to do portraits, is my fascination in the contact I can feel with the model, when we are working towards the special moment that’s touching my soul through the lens. When the mask of the person goes down.
About Monique Roodenburg
Often my work is about connection and disconnection, abundance and overload. I look to capture a bit of the drama, much like a dark play in a theater. This darkness and the styling of my compositions strive to pull the viewer into a different reality and tell a deeply personal story.
The process of creating altered realities begins with choosing and photographing the models. Once I have captured the right essense of the model, I digitally paint the composition to complete the story and create atmosphere. After being a theaterperformer for 10 years I graduately exchanged the stage for the camera now. In a way my work are stills. [Official Website]
